Once you change your username you will not be able to change it back and the old name will not be available for you or anyone to use.
None of that is ambiguous, I trust.
You can, however, simply change your display name. Your username will always show in the forums, but in the blog you can change what displays if you go to your Profile page and change "Nickname".
