You can add a link back to your home page in your menu (see Appearance -> Menu, then add a link tab), for more about custom menus see here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/

I think with your theme the picture isn't a link to the home page, but your site title acts as a link back to your home page, but it seems your sites title is no longer there (it just says my place on the web, which I suspect is your site's tagline).

If you go to Appearance -> Customize, and then click on Site Title, you'll find options to edit your site title to what you want, as well as a checkbox to ensure the title is displayed. Maybe that's the issue?
