WordPress auto-saves your content, but if you walk away, anything can happen to your computer including having it reboot. I strongly recommend you always save the content as a draft (and back it up in a text file if it is important to you just in case) and not leave it up on the screen.
I did that and my cat walked across my keyboard deleting content. I returned to find it had autosaved multiple messed up copies and it took me a while to find the best autosave version but I had to redo a lot of the work.
It's not what you wish to hear but I recommend that you refresh the web page and edit the post. Scroll to the bottom and go through the auto-saved versions to find the best one you can and go forward from there.
I sure wish WordPress read minds and protected every word we write. Auto-save has only been available for a few years and it is wonderful, but like many software and web-based tools, it isn't perfect.
If it continues to be an issue, please report back as there might be something bigger wrong as WordPress 3.6 features are being pushed out for testing across WordPress.com right now. Thanks and sorry.
